This is a meeting between two of the most successful AFCON sides, with Ivory Coast winning the tournament in 1992 and 2015 and reaching further finals in 2006 and 2012, while Nigeria are three-time winners, most recently in 2013, and seven-time finalists.

As for Nigeria, they could only manage a 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea in their opening match, though they did manage to come from behind in that meeting, so it could have been much worse
